Argentine Ant

Also known as the Linepithema humile, this ant is native to, you guessed it, Argentina (as well as Brazil and Uruguay). Mostly prevalent in the American South, these insects come in a variety of ¬†shades of brown and do not have a stinger. These ants’ nests are most commonly found in damp places, like under shady plants and rocks. When weather conditions are too cold, wet, or dry, these ants migrate into buildings (usually in large numbers) to seek shelter.

Odorous House Ant

Given its name from the odor that is expelled from the insect when crushed, the Tapinoma sessile, or the odorous house ant is a pest you do not want invading your home. Brown to black in color and without a stinger, these ants invade the structures and buildings across the entire United States. A typical colony contains thousands of ants and are often found under objects like wood and bricks. Also, a colony of odorous house ants will move their nest if rain affects them, and when their food supply is low, they will move to another home.
